If You Are Struggling, Start Here

Resources

If you are a Christian and you are suffering, begin by being honest with God about how you’re feeling. Read Psalms like 10, 13, 42, 77. Out loud. And start speaking or writing your own complaint. After you have done that, read a few Scriptures about the love and care of God like John 14:18-27, Romans 8:31-39, Isaiah 43:1-4, Jeremiah 29:10-14. He hears you. He cares. He loves you. He will carry you through this. He will not leave you desolate. He will come to you. And he will bring purpose and meaning out of your pain in ways you would have never dreamed.

If you are a seeker… I’ve written an article about How to Know Christ.

Books on Suffering that Have Ministered to Me

Lament is how we bring our sorrow to God - but it is a neglected dimension of the Christian life for many Christians today. We need to recover the practice of honest spiritual struggle that gives us permission to vocalize our pain and wrestle with our sorrow. Lament avoids trite answers and quick solutions, progressively moving us toward deeper worship and trust.

DARK CLOUDS, DEEP MERCY

How do we move forward when life falls apart? It seems easier to pull away from God than to move toward the One who let all this happen. Drawing from her own experiences in losing an infant son, losing her marriage, and being diagnosed with a debilitating disease, Vaneetha shares the breathtaking way God met her in her suffering.
